Gary Jules only had to play a few random chords and bang. The proper version by Tears For Fears required talent to program the synthesizers and mix and master them. It's just a piano and a voice - anyone could have done that. Tears For Fears is better than Gary Jules and all the other versions out there.
I do like the Gary Jules version as well. A world that doesn't make sense because we do go about our lives every day in spite of there being plenty of bleak things reflected by the juxtaposition of bleak lyrics and upbeat music. But even more, the upbeat music against those bleak lyrics is, well, mad. In a way, the upbeat music against the bleak lyrics reflect that. But every day people get up and go about their lives, some actually oblivious, some tuning the world out so that the bleakness around them doesn't beat them down. Which, of course, isn't all there is to the world. The lyrics do paint a picture of a very bleak world.
Jiminy from UkIt's interesting that some think the original music doesn't fit the weight of the lyrics.Lyrics licensed and provided by LyricFind Look right through me, look right through me Made to feel the way that every child should When people run in circles it's a very, veryĬhildren waiting for the day they feel good I find it hard to tell you 'cause I find it hard to take The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
